Key Accomplishments ( ) High School Social Studies textbook adoption Curriculum brochures for parents Interim EDM Assessments Professional development website Elementary health program planning Trimester reporting schedule Middle school science curriculum Pre-engineering class (grades 7-8) Three year MCAS trend analysis Curriculum website Benchmark Assessment System Training - ELA Induction/Mentor Program

Deliverables ( ) 1.Establish K-12 Curriculum Teams for every subject 2.Develop a Curriculum Review/Revision Cycle (beginning with Science) 3.Full implementation of elementary health programming 4.Pilot new elementary report system 5.Utilize Growth Model (MCAS)

Detail – Curriculum Teams 1) Establish K-12 Curriculum Teams for every subject Rationale: Promote vertical alignment in all subject areas. This type of system will allow for real-time adjustments to be made to curriculum and instruction. When: Teams currently being established at elementary; Middle and high school already in departments; Initial meeting to take place on 12/7/09.

Detail – Curriculum Review Cycle 2) Develop a Curriculum Review/Revision Cycle Rationale: Review and revision to curriculum programs and documents, through the curriculum review process, will ensure a high quality education system that supports success for all students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. When: A series of meetings will occur throughout the school year: (1/2 day pd; before/after school meetings; release days; etc.)

Detail – Health Programming 3) Full implementation of elementary health programming Rationale: Healthy kids make good students, and good students make healthy communities. When: Health classes currently being taught at the elementary schools. Program evaluation will occur in May/June 2010.

Detail – Reporting System 4) Pilot elementary reporting system Rationale: Currently, both elementary schools have different reporting systems and reporting schedules. This process will align both schools. When: Kindergarten reporting system reported to families in early October; 1 st -5 th grade reporting schedule reported to families in early October; Guide to new report card being communicated in early November; New report card currently in development with a December 2009 implementation.

Detail – Growth Model 5) Utilize Growth Model Rationale: The growth model is a statistically valid way to measure the change in student performance over time. It complements the MCAS year-by-year test scores, since it reports growth over time in addition to student's performance level in any one year. When: DESE public release to occur on 10/27/09 Report to school committee on 11/3/09
