 Approximately 2,700 undergraduates and 300 graduates.  Welcomed 440 first year students at S.O.  Teacher Education is largest department with Middle Childhood the largest major.  Math, science and foreign language have most demand for employment  Kinesiology and Health close second with Exercise Science the largest major.  Special Education numbers are on the rise!!!

 Students begin in all undergraduate majors in EHS as pre-majors, except in Family Studies.  Each pre-major must meet a set of requirements for acceptance to the major or a cohort which can include:  Achieving a certain g.p.a.  Completion of specific coursework  Specific ACT or SAT scores (EDT Majors only)  Submitting an application  Providing documentation of experience as required in their specific programs

 Double Majors are welcomed, however, graduating in 4 years depends on many factors.  Some majors that work well together:  History and Integrated Social Studies Ed, Zoology & Life Science Ed, Spanish and Spanish Ed.  Some that don’t:  Athletic Training and Early Childhood Education, Dietetics and Social Work and, students can not be ECE, MCE and /or AYA majors at the same time.  Minors are offered in ALL EHS departments EXCEPT Teacher Education. There is no MINOR in teaching!

Conducted in the department of desired major (dropping current major will be handled at that time) The student MUST meet with a faculty member or departmental advisor PRIOR to changing into a major in EHS. (Contact the department to schedule an appointment) KNOW THE DEADLINE FOR CHANGING MAJORS. (Know the proposed deadline for students to change their major and STILL be able to register for courses in the NEW major for Spring 2010! After this date (usually early October) there are NO GUARANTEES THE MAJOR CHANGE WILL BE PROCESSED BY THE STUDENT’S REGISTRATION WINDOW TIME).

 Study Abroad can be incorporated into most majors with decisive planning. Most EHS departments also offer summer opportunities to travel abroad in the summer.  Student Teaching Abroad is available and coordinated through the Field Placement office in 202 McGuffey Hall.  Student Teaching is coordinated by our placement office. Placement occurs in the student’s senior year within a 50 mile radius of campus. Includes all majors for teaching licensure in EDT, EDP and KNH.

There are TONS of possibilities in EHS & questions are always welcomed!
