GRAPEVINE HIGH SCHOOL Communication Applications Syllabus Instructor:Grant Hahn Webpage: Conference:1 st Period Lunch:5 th Period Course Description- This course is designed to give the student communication skills essential to success in the workplace. The course will include components and characteristics of the four Communication Applications strands: Communication Process, Interpersonal, Group Communication, and Presentations. Course Content- The course will include teacher, self, and peer assessment. The student will engage in activities and strategies to enhance the understanding of the Communication Applications TEKS.

Course Grading- Major Grades 60% Presentations (Speeches/Current Events) Tests Daily Grades 40% Current Event Summary/Opinion Classwork Participation Late Work 10% will be deducted from Major Grades for each day it is late. Daily Grades will have no penalty, but MUST be turned in on or before the Wednesday of the 6 th week of the 6 weeks. Syllabus (continued)

By the end of the semester, the students should have developed the following skills: Understanding of the Communication Process Effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills Increased confidence Enhanced listening skills Awareness of leadership skills Techniques for successful interviews and resumes Research skills Organizational concepts Analytical skills Persuasive techniques Group management skills Syllabus (continued)

Warm Ups Monday: Comic Strip Tuesday: SAT Words Wednesday: Quotation Thursday: Reflection Each day you will be asked to complete the task for the listed above warm up. At the end of class on Thursday you will turn in the warm up paper for a daily grade. Please follow the example shown.

Make sure to put your name on the paper. Put the date for each entry. Turn in on Thursday.
