What Is Diabetes? Diabetes is a condition in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced.

To understand what happens in Diabetes, First you need to understand 3 things. ONE Glucose is the body’s main source of energy. It’s the main type of sugar in the blood.

TWO: Glucose comes from the foods we eat.

THREE: You need a hormone called insulin to get glucose into your body’s cells.

What is Insulin? Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates the level of glucose, a simple sugar that provides energy, in the blood.

What is Type 1 Diabetes? The pancreas produces no insulin.

The cells do not respond correctly to the insulin. What is Type 2 Diabetes?
