Starter Task. Look at the pictures, note down what you see. When do you think they were taken? Which Human Rights do you think are being denied the people in the picture? What would you think if you were taken from your home and locked up simply because you had the ‘wrong’ surname? What would you think of the people that did this to you? What would you do to survive? Key Question. What are the links between the Holocaust and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

Lesson outcomes. To have completed a cart sort to show links between the Holocaust and the UDHR. To have read examples of Human Rights abuses and completed various tasks reflecting on each case. Homework. Revise for your assessment. Don’t forget your assessment will require knowledge of Victoria’s experience in Auschwitz and a little background to the Holocaust. For the higher levels you will need to show links between the events of the Holocaust and the UDHR.

Things to do. Card sort – in pairs, match up the pictures of events during the Holocaust where people’s Human Rights are being denied with Articles of the UDHR. Note down three of the Articles on the cards and explain how the Articles are being broken in the pictures.

Group work (3s or 4s). You will be given campaign information from Amnesty International, the Human Rights charity. Read the information and complete the following tasks. Task 3.
