What is Ancestry Library Edition?  ALE is a research tool offering the most comprehensive, international genealogical information available online, with more than 5 billion names in thousands of collections.

Summary of Contents:  Coverage of the United States and the United Kingdom, including census, vital, church, court, and immigration records.  Record collections from Canada, Europe, and Australia.  Thousands of databases containing content from the 13th century to the 21st century and billions of indexed names.  Contains key collections such as U.S. Federal Census images and indexes from 1790 to 1930; American Genealogical Biographical Index (over 200 volumes); Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage (over 150 volumes); The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England, ; Social Security Death Index (updated monthly); WWI Draft Registration Cards; Federal Slave Narratives; and a strong Civil War collection.

Summary of Contents:  Census:  U.S.  1940 will be available in 2012  Canada  back to mid 19 th century  U.K.  back to 1841  Vital Records from U.S. / Canada / U.K.  Immigration Records:  Passenger Lists (also includes travellers and crew)  Border Crossings  Military Records:  U.S.  Foreign (Canada, Europe and Holocaust specific documents)  Other Notable Data:  International Collections (ProQuest is working on agreements with libraries & museums).  Newsletters

ALE vs. Ancestry.com  Ancestry.com is designed for the individual -- numerous personalized functionality and options available to private subscribers that are NOT available in the Library Edition.  There are also certain databases or collections that are available in Ancestry.com, but are NOT included in Ancestry Library Edition.
