Welcome Library Volunteers to the Hubbard School Year!

 Upon arrival, please stop in the office to sign-in and pick up your Visitor’s sticker.  Preparing for student arrival:  Please begin by checking with Mrs. Pandise to see if there are any materials needed for the library lesson.  For Transitional, Pre-K and Kindergarten, please select books from the Pre-Selection Bookshelf and place them on the Selection Table.  During the first month of school, 1 st grade volunteers will also select books from the Pre-Selection Bookshelf and place them on the Selection Table.  Please go to the HOLD Cart and check your grade and locate any books that are on hold for your class. Remove the books and give them to Mrs. Pandise with the report. Library Procedures

 As soon as the students arrive and place their books in the book drop, please Check In books using the scanner by the Circulation Desk. Hubbard School Bar Codes can be found on the back cover or on the inside back cover.  While checking in each title, check the monitor screen to be sure it is checked in correctly. Occasionally the scanner does not pick up the Hubbard School Bar Code and it does not scan in properly. Checking Books In

 While checking in, you may see the following: Check-in Continued... If this notification appears, please print a hold notice and place it and the book on the hold cart on the bottom shelf.

After all books have been checked in, please place them on the cart next to the circulation desk. If any books have been placed by the RENEW BOOKS HERE sign, please renew the books by going to the RENEW tab below the CHECK IN tab and scan the barcode. Keep renewed books by the circulation desk for the students to pick up.

At this time, please print out the report for your class. In Destiny, go to REPORTS and locate your child’s class. Click on RUN to access today’s circulation information.

Once the RUN button has been pressed, a new page will appear to enable printing. You must press REFRESH LIST for the system to process the most current information.

Next, click on the VIEW button and print the report. Transitional K, K, & 1 are individual notices, please cut in half. Grades 2 & 3 are reports. Please give all to Mrs. Pandise.

 Library Volunteers, please shelve the books that have been returned by your class and any books on the cart.  Pre-K, Kindergarten and Transitional K, please return the books back to the Pre-Selection Bookshelf. These books DO NOT have to be put into alphabetical or Dewey order.  First, Second and Third grade books need to be returned to the stacks for circulation. Filing Library Materials

 Non-fiction books are shelved using the DEWEY Decimal Numeric/Alpha system.  Please use all the available signage to help you shelve. Shelving Non-Fiction Books

 Non-fiction books all have 3 numbers and a letter(s), which correspond with the author’s last name.  Some Non-fiction books also have a decimal point and possibly 1, 2 or 3 numbers and letters after the decimal.  Shelve the numbers smallest to largest. So, 523 FRA would go before FRA, which would go before FRA, etc. Dewey Mystery Solved!

 Fiction books have a spine label with an “F” and the first three letters of the author’s last name (F GUT) for Dan Gutman.  Within a series, please shelve them in series order. Fiction (Chapter) Books

 Picture books have a spine label with an “E” and the first three letters of the author’s last name (E CRO) for Doreen Cronin and Kristyn Crow.  Keep the authors together & when there is the same last name, use the author’s first name to alphabetize.  A project for this school year is to change the picture books to E CRONIN or E CROW (the author’s full last name). Picture Books

 Biographies are shelved by the SUBJECT’S last name. Their labels have a “B” and the complete last name, and in the case of two people with the same last name, the first initial is included. Biographies

Illustrated Fiction  F with a green dot “I” Illustrated Fiction shelves are located on the left side of the library opposite the library office before the non-fiction section. File alphabetically by author’s last name.

Videos & DVDs Shelves are on the right side of the library opposite the library office. Titles are filed in the following order: E (A-Z) by the TITLE of the video/dvd F (A-Z) by the TITLE of the video/dvd Dewey Decimal numbers B (A-Z) by the SUBJECT of the video/dvd

Checking Out Materials  When students have finished selecting their materials, they will approach the Circulation Desk with their Shelf Marker and books. Please scan the student’s barcode from the Shelf Marker and keep the Shelf Marker at the Circulation Desk. Double check that the correct student’s name is on the screen.  3 rd grade students are permitted to check out magazines. Please take a MAGAZINE folder from under the Circulation Desk, open the cover and scan the temporary barcode (see next slide).

 SCAN BARCODE ON INSIDE OF FOLDER  The following computer message will appear  Click YES.  Enter the TITLE of the magazine (SI for Sports Illustrated, etc.) and the Month/Year.  Click on SAVE and place the magazine in the folder. Magazines

 When not directly involved with checking in/out and shelving materials, please refer to the SHELF CHECKING SCHEDULE. During your scheduled time, please carefully check the section assigned to your class and correct any incorrectly shelved books.  A mis-shelved book is a lost book . Additional Responsibilities

 THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING AT THE HUBBARD SCHOOL LIBRARY. YOUR CHILDREN LOVE SEEING YOU AND I GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR DEDICATION! One final note...
