Stories to tell… We all have stories to tell: stories about ourselves, our families, our communities, our traditions, our past. True stories are especially powerful, because they are grounded in facts. When a writer recounts a true story it is as if she is signing an unofficial contract with the reader. The gist of the contract is: "The story I'm about to tell you really happened." A name for this kind of writing is creative nonfiction. It's a style of writing that borrows techniques from fiction writing such as dramatization and dialogue in the service of telling a true – as opposed to an invented – story.

Author A person who creates a written work (writer).

Authentic Being really what it seems to be (genuine); made to be or look just like an original.
