Traits Writing Writing curriculum. The instructional model is based on the seven qualities, or traits, of good writing. traits

Good Writing Ideas = piece’s content. Organization = internal structure of piece. Voice = tone of the piece. Word Choice = specific vocabulary the writers uses. Sentence Fluency = the way words and phrases flow through piece. Conventions = mechanical correctness of the piece. Presentation = physical appearance of the piece.

Traits Writing Writing curriculum. The instructional model is based on the seven qualities, or traits, of good writing. traits Students will learn how to apply the traits to create strong pieces of writing for many purposes and audiences. Teacher directed topics and student directed topics Modes of writing will be narrative, expository, and persuasive. Grammar instruction is embedded into the writing curriculum. Workshop = most writing work completed in class.

Spelling Words Their Way   Teaches students how words work.   It’s a developmentally-driven approach— students’ word lists are based on where they are now as spellers.   Provides an integrated way to teach phonics, vocabulary and spelling to improve literacy skills.   It’s based on the way children learn naturally—by comparing and contrasting word features and discovering patterns and consistencies.   All students will be able to experience progress as they become better spellers, readers and writers.
