5 5 NDNG Diversity Council Upcoming Special Observances/Events Holocaust Remembrance Event –Holocaust Remembrance Day, 16 April; Days of Remembrance, 12 – 19 April –75 th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps –Put on a Special Observance Event in September –In contact with Jewish/Holocaust organizations in MN to connect with a Survivor/Liberator –Have several thousand dollars in Diversity Funds to support this event

6 6 NDNG Diversity Council Develop and Increase Partnerships MAJ Wiese attended BSC Embracing Diversity Committee Meeting on 16 June –The Committee is interested in exploring ways to partner with other groups/organizations –MAJ Wiese will be on their invite list (the Committee usually meets the last Tuesday of the month), and other NDNG Members will have the opportunity to attend future meetings –Dr. Amy Juhala is the POC with the Committee and is in attendance today

8 8 NDNG Diversity Council Strategic Goal Discussion / Updates Action Step #1: Enhance Diversity and Inclusion –Assess effectiveness of current branding and marketing; OPRs: Air and Army Command –Set specific goals to attract underrepresented groups; OPRs: Army and Air Command –Develop, mentor, and retain top talent reflective of the communities we serve; OPR: HRO –Examine policies, processes and procedures and refine to leverage diversity and inclusion; OPR: HRO

9 9 NDNG Diversity Council Strategic Goal Discussion / Updates Action Step #2: Leaders Champion Diversity and Inclusion and Understand how to Achieve Success –Adjutant General and JEC will communicate to their organizations that enhancing diversity and inclusion is a top priority. OPR: TAG/JEC –Subordinate Leaders will emphasize the value of diversity and inclusion. OPR: Army and Air Command –Thru existing battle rhythm, including OPD/NCOPD, educate our personnel on diversity and inclusion. OPR: SEEM, Army and Air Command

10 NDNG Diversity Council Strategic Goal Discussion / Updates Action Step #3: Develop and Increase Partnerships to Promote Diversity and Inclusion, as well as Share Best Practices –Identify and formalize partnerships that will enhance diversity and inclusion in our organization. OPR: SEEM –Commanders will empower EOL and HRA to increase diversity and inclusion awareness and celebrate special observance events. OPR: Army and Air Command

11 NDNG Diversity Council Adjutant General’s Checklist for Diversity and Inclusion State Joint Diversity Executive Council (JDEC) Implementation Adjutant General’s Checklist for Diversity and Inclusion Have you personally communicated to your organization that diversity and inclusion is a top priority for you? (Goal #2) Can a statement of your commitment be found on your internet homepage (or on a link configured on your homepage)? Does your state have a Joint Diversity Executive Council (JDEC) appointed by you that meets at least quarterly to focus on Diversity and Inclusion issues? (Goals #2, #3) Does your state JDEC include senior leaders from all of your major commands (both Army & Air)? Do you make it a point to periodically attend meetings of your state JDEC to provide your personal guidance and show support? Do you have a state Diversity & Inclusion Plan that identifies specific goals that tie directly to the 4 goals listed in the NGB Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Plan? (Goals #1, #2, #3, #4) Is someone briefing you on a regular basis regarding your state’s compliance with the goals (both state & NGB) listed above? (Goals #1, #3, #4) Have you identified demographic groups present in your state that are underrepresented in your Air and/or Army Guard? (Goal #1) If so have you developed a strategy to improve the representation of those demographic groups in your organization? Have you appointed a general officer to represent your state in the regional JDEC group that you are assigned to? (Goal #3 Does this G.O. (or a substitute) actively participate in the quarterly regional JDEC meetings to collaborate on issues of common concern and share best practices? Do members of your Air & Army Guard participate in activities/meetings of outside (civilian) diversity groups in your state? (Goal #3) Does your state take advantage of diversity training available through the National Guard Bureau or outside sources? (Goal #3) Is your state willing to expend funds (state or federal) to pay for diversity & inclusion training from time to time? (Goals #2, #3) Do you have a formal (or informal) mentoring program in your state designed to assist talented young officers and NCOs in reaching the highest leadership positions possible? 16 NDNG Diversity Council Prior Due Outs / Taskers Tri-fold panels for Diversity Boards for NDNG facilities are being ordered utilizing Diversity Funds Special Observance Posters –Print Shop (SSG Marty Mosbrucker) has the capability of printing 11” x 17” No real funding constraints –VIOS can print poster size (Jon Haugen/CW4 Skager) 20” x 24” Some fiscal constraints as it would cost approximately $1,000 for 240 posters (20 posters/month)
