English 8A Holocaust Research Assignment Guideline

REQUIREMENTS: Title page Typed outline—Do not forget to put the source credit before each point, like this: A. Hitler was born April 20, (Source C) Don’t forget to write the outline in YOUR OWN WORDS. Typed Works Consulted page Staple together and hand in (with all previous, graded parts) next Wednesday, the day the class presentations begin. Presentations: Five to ten minutes. Must include visual, like PowerPoint slides.

Research outline rubric: _____Works Cited (10) _____Introduction section(grabber, main points) (10) _____Main Points—Organized logically (10) _____Main points—Content (40) _____Conclusion section (summary, actual conclusions/lessons) (10) _____Outline format (10) _____Grammar/Spelling (10) TOTAL:________ ** You must hand in all previous, graded parts of this project in your research folder on the due date, March 6 th. Ten points late per day.

Task 1: Create a title page Janie Smith Ms. Cerulli March 6, 2013 English 8A Hitler: From Struggling Artist to Genocidal Maniac Original title Your name My name Due date English 8A

Task 2: Create a Works Cited Page: Works Cited “Jack the Ripper.” The Ripper Webroom.June Klein, Matt. Ripperology. Oklahoma: Yale Press, Quigley, Lisa. “I Found the Real Ripper.” Reader’s Digest. New York: RD Publishers,2005. (Alphabetize your entries)

The Works Consulted Page

Why do You Need one? To give credit to the sources that offered you information and direction. So teachers and others who read your paper can look up your sources.

How do you cite books? Last name, First name. Book Title (Underlined). Place Published: Publisher, Year Published. (Indent the second line) For Example: Pendleton, Maureen. How I Became President. New York: United Press, 2007.

How do I cite articles? If only an editor is listed: “Title of Article.” Name of Editor (Ed). Title of Book. Place: Publisher, Year. For example: “Washington, George.” Encyclopedia Britannica. Geoffrey Wigoder (Ed). Winston-Salem, NC: University Press, Last name of author, First name (if given). “Title of Article.” Title of book. Place Published: Publisher, Year published.

How do I cite for the Internet? “Title of Article.” Person or Organization Responsible for the Site. Date last updated. Exact Web Address. For Example: “The History of Magic.” Carroll Magical IV. November magicisfake.com/

Works Consulted Bousaid, Dani. Butterflies. Oklahoma: Yale Press, “Count Chocula.” The Cereal Webroom. Niles, Kenny. “Mike Tyson is My Hero.” Reader’s Digest. New York: RD Publishers, Notice that the first letters are alphabetized. DO NOT number the list.

Now use the source information on your source cards to create a rough copy of your Works Consulted Page. Hand this in with your outlines tomorrow so I can look it over for you. If you are missing ANY source information, you must look it up today. You must list every source that you plan to use in your paper. If you use information from a source in the paper and do not include it on your Works Consulted page, that is technically plagiarism. If you include a source on your Works Consulted page, it MUST appear in your paper.

Remember: Press the enter key in the middle of the web address that is long so that it fits neatly on the lines. If you need help tonight:

Use the same, standard outline format in your final, typed version as you did with your rough copy:

Original Title I.Introduction A. Interesting grabber statement B. Main point 1 C. Main point 2 D. Main point 3 E. Main point 4 F. Introductory clincher statement

II. Main point 1: Topic sentence statement A. First supporting fact in your own wording. (Source 3) 1) Add additional sub facts. (Source A) 2) As many as you need. (Source A) B. Second supporting fact in your own wording. (Source 1) C. Third supporting fact. (Source 5)

Presentation rubric: _____Content (overview of topic, most important facts communicated) (40) _____Organization (logical sequencing, easy to follow) (10) _____Delivery (volume, eye contact, coherence) (20) _____Rehearsal(10) _____Visual (PowerPoints suggested. All presentations must also include source credit) (30) TOTAL:________
