Lesson Plan - Ordinals (1st - 10th, First - Tenth) Bill Lindahl EPI 0003 Educational Technology Professor Samantha L. Cooper, M.Ed

Ordinals Overall Objectives 1. Teach the words “First”, “Second”, “Third”… “Tenth”. 2. Match words to numerical representation (ex: First = 1st, Second = 2nd) 3. Understand the ordinal positions (Sequencing 1 to 10)

Ordinals Required Materials File folder games / Manipulatives. Pocket display chart & white boards / markers.

Ordinals Sunshine State Standards This lesson plan will partially address the following Sunshine State Standard for Mathematics K-1: Benchmark MA.A.1.1.1: The student associates verbal names, written word names, and standard numerals with the whole numbers less than 1000. Grade Level Expectations (K to First) The student: Knows the cardinal numbers to indicate quantity and ordinal numbers to indicate position. Uses ordinal numbers 1st – 10th or higher

Ordinals 4 Lessons Number words and ordinal positions. (First, Second,,, 1st, 2nd) Ordinal positions with “Thomas ” and friends. “Sequencing” while building a track for Thomas. “Sequencing” – Lets draw SpongeBob.

Number words and ordinal positions. Ordinals Lesson 1: Number words and ordinal positions. Lesson Objectives: Understand ordinal positions - “number words” (First through Tenth) Understand ordinal positions - “numeric representation” (1st through 10th)

Number words and ordinal positions. Ordinals Lesson 1: Number words and ordinal positions. Required materials: Set of “number cards” Set of “number word cards” Set of ordinal “position cards” File folder

Number words and ordinal positions. Ordinals Lesson 1: Number words and ordinal positions. Procedures / Activities: On a file folder : Ask student to order the number cards 1 to 10. Assist the student : Placing the ordinal position cards next to the appropriate number. Assist the student : Placing the number word cards next to the appropriate number. At the end of this activity the file folder should Look something like this……………………………….…
