Education and development pathways for pre- registration Nursing, health care assistants and widening participation at GHNHSFT

Pre-registration pathway Partner University is UWE Degree only pathway – 3 years Entry requirements 50% academic 50% clinical GHNHSFT work closely with UWE to ensure curriculum is fit for purpose – meeting both service requirements and NMC requirements Changing scope of Nursing profession

Entry requirements for pre- registration programmes 3 A levels (or equivalent) grades A – C Ideally includes a Science GCSE grades A – C which have to include Maths, English and a Science Formal interview at UWE with Academics, Stakeholders and Service Users on selection panel Written test and Numeracy examination at selection Annual numeracy testing throughout three year programme – will not progress without 100% pass each year

Band 5 Transition programme GHNHSFT have always supported transition from student to staff Nurse 2010 GHNHSFT signed DH pledge in partnership with NMC and South West SHA to enrol all newly registered practitioners Flying Start England – partnership with University of Gloucestershire

What is preceptorship Structured transition phase from newly registered to 12 months post registration Develops confidence and apply knowledge from academic studies and placements Foundation for life long learning Improves patient care and experience Improves recruitment & retention Improves staff satisfaction and morale

Preparation of our Health Care Support Workers Historically always developed (NVQ etc) Recognise need for more proactive and local approach to this workforce Band 2 Development Programme Accreditation route being discussed with various education providers
