G6 - Science Lesson Plan.Rev0

Lesson 48 C2-A: The Sun “the nearest STAR”

Let us study the Sun What can you say about our Sun? Yes – it is the brightest, hottest, biggest object beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. Wow – its really awesome. God is so powerful!!! Bright Powerful Wow!!! BIG Hot

Sun’s Temperature Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius. The temperature on the surface of the sun is 6000 degrees Celsius. Not all of the sun’s radiation reaches the Earth. God designed something to repel this radiation. SUN is really HOT

Sun Made up of very hot flaming gasses. This hot gasses emit heat and light energy. This energy is known as solar radiation. This heat and light reach our planet “the earth”.

Lesson 48 C2-B: The Solar System

C2-B1 Media Presentation: Watch the Media Presentation entitled “Lesson 48 Space School Solar System” Found in Generic/Quality/Department/Primary/Grade 3/Subject/Science/Lesson Plan Objective: At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to: - Locate the sun in relation to the other bodies in the solar system -Identify the numbers planets inthe solar system

Lesson 48 C2-B1 Seatwork: I. Draw our solar system and enumerate significant bodies inside the system II. Why are they not considering Pluto as one of our solar system planets? - A planet should be orbiting the sun - A planet should have enough gravity Sun Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto Keipler Belt Scattered Disk Heliosphere Terrestrial Planets - iron - rocks Inner Solar system Gaseous Planets - big planets - gas Outer Solar system Dwarf Planet - 42 known in our solar system

C2-B2 Media Presentation: Watch the Media Presentation entitled “Lesson 48 How big is the Earth Movie” And Lesson 48 How big is the earth Graphics Found in Generic/Quality/Department/Primary/Grade 3/Subject/Science/Lesson Plan Objective: At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to: -Realize how big the Earth is compared to other bodies in the galaxy

Lesson 48 C2-B2 Seatwork: I.Draw and enumerate the following I.Planets smaller than the Earth

Lesson 48 C2-B2 Seatwork: I.Draw and enumerate the following II. Planets bigger than the Earth

Lesson 48 C2-B2 Seatwork: I.Draw and enumerate the following II. Star bigger than the our Sun (at least 5, from our sun to the biggest)

Lesson 48 C2-B2 Seatwork: I.Draw and enumerate the following III. Star bigger than the our Sun (at least 5, from our sun to the biggest) My Cephie W Cephie

C2-B3 Media Presentation: Watch the Media Presentation entitled “Lesson 48 Journey to our Galaxy” Found in Generic/Quality/Department/Primary/Grade 3/Subject/Science/Lesson Plan Objective: At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to: -Realize how great God is that he created the expanse of the universe

Lesson 48 C2-B3 Seatwork: I.Answer the following I.What is the Speed of Light answer: 186,000miles per second II.If we are to travel in the speed of lightanswer: 5hrs and 31 minutes how fast can we reach Pluto starting from the sun III.How far is Pluto from our Sunanswer: 3.5 billion miles IV.What is the nearest star in our solar systemanswer: Alpha Centauri V.Traveling at the speed of light, how long can we get answer: 5 light years there if we are to start from the sun VI.After 1000 light years what is visibleanswer: gasses become defined VII.After 100,000 light yearsanswer: milky way is recognized VIII.After 5M light yearsanswer: 30 galaxies can be seen called as local groups IX.After 50M light yearsanswer: we can see larger burger clusters containing 2000 galaxies

Let us study our solar system Solar system is made up of the sun and all the bodies that move around it. Planets are bodies smaller than the sun. There are 9 planets Nearest to the sun: Mercury Farthest planet: Neptune (Pluto is not a true planet) Biggest planet: Jupiter Planets categorized into two: 1)Terrestrial: made up of iron and rocks 2)Gaseous : made up of gasses

C2-B Assignment: Research at the library/internet regarding each planets moon and its corresponding names.

Lesson 48 C2-C: Asteroids, Meteoroids and Comets

Asteroids Also called planetoids because they look like planets. Some are made up of rocks and metals. Most of them can be found in the asteroid belt found between Mars and Jupiter

Meteoroids When asteroids collide its not only atmospheric dust that is formed but also small chunks of rocks or iron and leave the asteroid belt Some are of this meteoroids enters Earths atmosphere. When this happen they are called meteors. When it landed the Earth it is called meteorite.

Comets  Bodies that move around the sun  Also called dirty snowball because it consists of frozen gases, ice and dust.

C2-C1 Media Presentation: Watch the Media Presentation entitled “Lesson 48 Asteroid impact on Earth” Found in Generic/Quality/Department/Primary/Grade 3/Subject/Science/Lesson Plan Objective: At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to: -Realize how good God is that our planet is not struck by an asteroid

Lesson 48 C2-C1 Assignment: I.Write a reflection regarding the clip entitled “Asteroid impact on Earth”

C2 Assignment: Answer Page of Exploring and Protecting our World Objective: At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to: -Suns location in relation to other bodies in the solar system -Identify the members of the solar system

C2-C Assignment: Research at the library regarding comets
