Goals of the Redesign

The main four goals to achieve in the redesign effort: Standardization Reorganization Integration Data Consolidation (long term) Four Goals of the Redesign

Standardization Building a website based upon Web Standards such as CSS, XHTML Building a website with consistent navigation Building a website that is Accessible (based upon Section 508 Rules) Building a website with increased consistency in look and feel Four Goals of the Redesign

Reorganization: Reorganizing our information to reflect our current priorities Separation of the State of the Bay from the State of the Bay Program Four Goals of the Redesign

Integration Full integration of the Bay Program suite of websites (CBP, CBGN, BJ) Incorporation of new information throughout the design (i.e. news stories) Integration of the new indicators framework and other initiatives Four Goals of the Redesign

Data Consolidation Reduction of data redundancy (i.e. contacts) A back-end system to hold and organize all information Reuse of code and logic A long term plan that will not likely be completed by the launch Four Goals of the Redesign

Audiences

Primary Audience: Interested Public Someone who has identified reasons that the Chesapeake Bay is important to him or her as an individual. They recognize a connection between the values of the Chesapeake Bay and their own personal interests. Students (grades K through undergraduate) are an important subset of our interested public who are particularly active in their pursuit of Bay-related information. Audiences for chesapeakebay.net

Goals for the Interested Public: Provide general Bay information including how the Bay watershed works, why the Bay is special and more. Provide information on ways to experience the Bay and strengthen their personal connections with the Chesapeake Build awareness and instill motivation to get involved in the Bay’s restoration Provide expansive information on: Audiences for chesapeakebay.net the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers the pressures throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed that impact ecosystem health the Bay Program’s science-based comprehensive restoration plan the actions that individuals and stakeholder groups can take to assist in the restoration effort

Goals for the Interested Public: Provide overview information on the Bay Program including: - the role as a model restoration program - Chesapeake 2000 as a strategic framework for restoration- Report progress on the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers Report on Bay restoration and Bay Program initiatives Audiences for chesapeakebay.net

Implementer Groups (Our stakeholder audiences) content must respond to their specific interests and needs, and must provide detailed information and guidance (and potentially online tools) enabling them to take specific targeted actions. information needs include (but are not limited to) summarized information, geographically targeted data, technical and financial assistance sources, watershed planning tools, etc. These groups include: Community, Environmental and Watershed Organizations Local Governments (Elected officials & professional staff) Businesses and Developers Agricultural Community (?) Watermen / Recreational Fishermen (?) Audiences for chesapeakebay.net

Implementer Groups (Our stakeholder audiences) Goals: Facilitate the sharing of information, data and best management practices among researchers and stakeholder groups working to protect and restore the Bay. Provide tools, data, technical and financial information and resources for target audiences to use in their efforts to restore and protect the Bay. Audiences for chesapeakebay.net

Special Audiences The Bay Program web site also serves as a key resource for Bay Program partners participating in the management and implementation of the restoration effort These audiences need access to summarized information, data and metadata, publications, contact information, and tools (interpolator, model, etc.). These groups include: Educators: need lesson plans and teaching resources (lesson plans, field trips, resources such as publications, photos and maps) Scientists: need data, tools to analyze data, summarized information Professional Colleagues / State and Federal Bay Program Partner Agencies (including both colleagues actively involved in the Chesapeake Bay management effort and those pursuing parallel activities in other parts of the nation or the world): need Bay Program process notes (including committee information, agendas, minutes, draft documents, presentations) Media: need current issues, events, press releases and background information Audiences for chesapeakebay.net
