WSU C2 Warriors College Experience Nursing Students participating in the Nursing track of the WSU C2 Pipeline Warriors College Experience will become familiar with the nurse’s role in diabetes through the lifespan approach. Students will begin by learning about the disease and how nurses are involved in the care of a diabetic. From there, a new age group will be introduced each session. In addition to discussing the health implications of diabetes during that time of life, students will explore the psychological, cultural, and spiritual and lifestyle complications a patient with diabetes may experience. During the eight sessions, students will have the opportunity to explore the function of the pancreas through dissection, monitor glucose and insulin levels, learn how to give an insulin injection and use a monofilament testing device to assess neuropathy. As a final activity, students will be given patient situations and work as teams to develop the best care plan for that patient.
