Presentation transcript:

Welcome to Aquatic Science  You must have a Blue Schedule to be in this class  If you do not have a blue schedule, please go to the cafeteria area for help  Please be seated and complete the student survey

Today’s Objectives  Distribute Official “Blue Schedule”  Complete Student Survey  More about Official “Blue Schedule”  Agendas and IDs  Review of Block Scheduling  Lunch Schedules  About your instructor (introduction)  Safety Agreement and Flinn Safety Contract  Review syllabus, procedures, and rules

Blue Schedules  You MUST have a Blue Schedule to be in this class  You MUST have your Blue Schedule to enter all other classes; A-day and B-Day  Hold on to and take care of your Blue Schedule

Agendas and IDs  Please purchase an agenda  Agendas have lots of information you will want to know:  School color, mascot, motto, mission statement, song, administration, fight song and calendar of events  Bell Schedule and Pep Rally Schedule  Dress Code (please read, this will be strictly enforced)  Map of Building  MOST IMPORTANTLY  Hall Pass

Agendas and IDs  I DO enforce IDs  You must have your ID on you and visible while you are on campus  You will need your ID for EVERYTHING  To enter into my class  To eat lunch  To checkout books from library

Review of Block Scheduling  Review of block Scheduling  Your class schedule is divided between two days:  A-days  B-days  Each Day will have four 90-minute blocks (classes)  Days will alternate:  if today is A-day, tomorrow will be B-day or,  if today is B-day, tomorrow will be A-day  You can pickup a A-day/B-day schedule from the office

Lunch Schedule  Who is your teacher for third block?  Your third block teacher will determine which lunch you have:  A lunch 11:20 am – 11:50 am  B lunch 11:55 am – 12:25 pm  C lunch 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm  D lunch 1:05 pm – 1:35 pm

Safety Agreement and Flinn Safety Contract  High School Safety Agreement  MUST be signed by you and a parent/guardian  Flinn Safety Contract  Please Read  Ask me if you have questions  MUST be signed by you and a parent/guardian  I’ll provide one and you provide the other (go to my website to print a copy for your lab notebook)

Safety Agreement and Flinn Safety Contract  You will be allowed to work in the lab only after you and a parent/guardian have signed both the agreement and contract, made a map of the room indicating safety equipment and emergency exits, and have passed a safety test.  Also, you will have a quiz over the safety rules from your Flinn safety contract.

Syllabus, Procedure and Rules  Go online to my website to read and print classroom syllabus  Syllabus contains information about:  Materials needed  Grades  Late work and Absences  Tutorial times  Classroom rules and consequences  You and a parent are required to sign the signature page (pg. 3) and turn it in.  Keep the syllabus in your binder for this class

Materials needed  3-Ring Binder with loose-leaf notebook paper (wide or college)  A multi-subject notebook and folder may be used. However, binders give students the ability to group notes and worksheets together by topic.  Pencil and Pen  Composition Notebook (for labs)

Procedures  Restroom  Don’t ask the first thirty minutes or the last thirty minutes  You will be given 2 restroom passes a six weeks  Homework  Turn in assignments on time  Use your time wisely  Complete work neatly and carefully

Procedures: My Time  My time:  Be silent, looking at me and listening  Example of My Time:  Teaching a lesson  Giving instructions  Addressing the class as a group

Procedures: Your Time  Your Time:  Time to gather supplies, sharpen pencil, discuss classroom activity or go to restroom  Example of your time:  Working independently  Working on classroom or lab activities

Classroom Expectations and Rules  Follow all directions the first time they are given.  This is a matter of safety. Please listen carefully and follow the instructions provided by your instructor.  Be in your seat ready to work when the tardy bell rings.  This is very important. If you are not in the room when the class starts you will be counted tardy. Remember that excessive tardiness may become a matter for the truancy officer.  Have all needed supplies and assignments  Turn in assignments on time  Use your time wisely  Complete work neatly and carefully

Classroom Expectations and Rules  Work and move about the building so as not to disturb others.  Keep hands, feet and objects to self.  Minimum noise level in halls  Show a respectful attitude to EVERYONE.  No profanity, inappropriate language, rude gestures, teasing or put-downs  Take care of school property and the property of others  Show respect for building and personal items. All Denton ISD and Guyer High School Rules will be enforced in my classroom.

Consequences of breaking a rule (or being tardy)  First Offense --Verbal Warning  Second Offense – Loss of Classroom Privileges  Third Offense – Parent Phone Call and Parent/Teacher/Student conference  Fourth Offense -- Student Detention from 8:10- 8:40  Fifth Offense or Serious Infraction -- Referral to administrators which may result in 1½ hr Tuesday afternoon detention, Saturday School, or In School Suspension. Any severe issues will be immediately sent to the administration.

Overview  Blue Schedules  They are your lifeline today and tomorrow  Agendas and IDs  Life is much easier with them  Lunch Schedule  Third block determines which lunch you have.  Write it down  Safety First!  Lab is a privilege. Let’s practice safety so that we can continue using the lab all year long.
