Being a good neighbor, Red wanted to welcome the Pigs into the neighborhood. So, she baked an apple pie. When the pie was freshly out of the oven, she put it in her basket and skipped down the street. When she got to the Pigs’ home, the Three Little Pigs were very excited about the pie, but couldn’t decide who would be the Pig to eat it. Red knew that the pie would have to be cut and to keep the Pigs from fussing, she cut it into three equal pieces. Each pig ate 1/3 of the apple pie and lived happily ever after!

Fraction Fajitas Use tortillas as a manipulative to teach fractions. Each student will need two tortillas– one to represent the whole and one to represent the fraction.

Mrs. Housley’s Peculiar Pizzas Create pizza templates. Cut yarn long enough to “slice” each pizza a few times. Students will use the yarn to divide the pizza into even pieces based on the order taken. Use worms, dinosaurs, bugs, etc. to create toppings on a fraction of the pizza.
