What are Career Clusters ? Today, we are going to re-visit Career Clusters. GaDOE requires that students start learning about different careers they may pursue after High School graduation. Do you remember what a Career Cluster is?

Career Clusters are occupations organized into groups with similar skills and knowledge.

First, we’re going to learn about occupations in the Business Management and Administration career cluster.

First, we’re going to learn about occupations in the Business Management and Administration career cluster. The Business Management and Administration career cluster includes jobs that relate to planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating business functions that are needed for good business operations.

HB 713 mandates a minimum course of study in career education in grades k-12. GaDOE has developed 17 Careers for K-5 elementary students to explore.

Who are You?  Likes & Dislikes  Strengths & Weaknesses

Who are You?  What are your like and dislikes?  What are your strengths?  What are your weaknesses? Knowing the answer to questions like these can help lead you to a job or career that you will enjoy doing every day.

Where are you going? Job VS Career  Work Force  College

Where are you going? Will you go on to Middle School? Will you go on to graduate from High School? Will you go straight into the Work Force for a job? Or will you graduate from High School, go on to college and pursue a degree for a career?

What’s the difference between a career and a job? Job is showing up to get paid for work you do Career spans your lifetime and includes your education, training, experience, and your full history of paid work in a certain field.

Mrs. Bridges has a career in education but her job is teaching students to read.

How are you going to get there? School Attendance is important from Kindergarten through High School.  When you’re not in school, you are missing important instruction that the rest of the class is getting.  Even when your teacher allows you to make up missed work, you miss out on the benefit of instruction that takes places daily in the classroom.

How are you going to get there? Class work Staying attentive and focused on your class work helps you to learn today what you will need to know for tomorrow’s instruction. Every day of instruction builds on previous learning. Every grade level builds on what you have mastered in previous grades.

How are you going to get there? Homework is practice of the skills we’ve worked on in class. The more practice you get, the quicker you master the knowledge.

How are you going to get there? Behavior Choosing to control your behavior should begin VERY early in life. Continuing to practice control of your behavior is important in EVERY aspect of your life forever. Good behavior is ALWAYS a good practice!

In every business, someone must be in charge.

= THE Person in charge

Sometimes that person is called the boss.  Another word to use for a boss is manager. A manager is someone who makes sure the business is operating properly—the goal of all businesses

What are some skills a person should have to be a good boss?  A good Communicator  A good Problem Solver  A good money maker & manager of money  A good computer operator

What are some skills a person should have to be a good boss? A good Communicator must be able to talk to customer and employees—good and bad. For example, the principal gives awards to students for good behavior and also sends students home that are bad.

What are some skills a person should have to be a good boss ? A good Problem Solver must be able to think of a solution to problems that come up. School example: one teacher wants to have the school colors change to black and white while another teacher wants the school colors to change to purple and blue. What does the principal do?

What are some skills a person should have to be a good boss? A good money maker & manager of money be able to do the job to make money; must know when to spend and when to save so the business can operate successfully and properly

What are some skills a person should have to be a good boss? A good computer operator must be able to operate the computer that controls forms and documents for the business

Architecture & Construction Day 2 Today we’re going to learn about occupations in the Architecture & Construction career cluster. The Architecture & Construction career cluster has two areas.

What is Architecture? Architecture is the design of buildings and planning the built environment.

What is Construction? Construction is the way or manner something is put together or built.

What is Construction? What type of work would be involved in building a structure?

What is Construction? electricians; plumbers; welders; heavy equipment operators; brick mason, etc.
