Name of School John Hardin High STLP The mission of the JHHS STLP program is to advance individual capabilities; to motivate all students; and to create leadership opportunities through the use of technology in our school and community.

How do students join STLP? The JHH STLP Program was advertised to students on the school’s morning news show. Student were also recommended by their teachers. Students who have personal interest and/or skills in any of a variety of technology areas were invited to join. STLP students meet before or after school on a flexible schedule throughout the school year.

John Hardin High has STLP students in grades 9-12.

JHHS Bulldog News Daily Broadcast Goal 1 - The STLP will develop activities which enhance the academic, social and emotional growth of the student. Goal 2 - The STLP will provide leadership opportunities for students. Members of the JHHS STLP group produce a live news broadcast for the school each morning. STLP members serving on the news crew arrive at school 30 minutes early to prepare the daily broadcast. News and announcements are presented each day to our students and staff via a live closed-circuit broadcast. Roles are rotated among the STLP students so each student gains experience in every component necessary in producing the daily news show.

Goal 3 - Students will participate in multi-age collaboration by forming innovative learning partnerships. Goal 4 - The STLP will form learning partnerships among students with different technology skills. The JHHS news crew consists of students from all grade levels, with older students training younger students. Student directors work with students of varying technological skill levels to develop and to enhance existing skills.

Goal 5 – STLP will develop activities that benefit the community. STLP students tape various events in the school and throughout the school district, such as school sporting events, performances at our performing arts facility, and monthly Board of Education meetings for broadcast on HCETV, our local community education network. STLP students tape Elizabethtown City Council and Hardin County Fiscal Court sessions for broadcast on HCETV. One of our STLP students runs the audio mixer, video mixer, and lights each week for his church youth group as a result of the skills he has gained in STLP. STLP students worked with HCETV camera crews to tape live election coverage on November 2, 2010, for local community television.

Goal 6 - The STLP will develop instructional activities which integrate technology and benefit the school and support KETS STLP students work with the school media specialist to facilitate the use of the school’s distance learning module. Students set up equipment for scheduled distance learning workshops that are scheduled by school personnel throughout the year. STLP students assist teachers in the set up and use of classroom technology, such as LCD projectors, digital cameras, laptops, and more.

JHHS School Newspaper Unleashed Dedicated John Hardin High students meet before and after school to create Unleashed, the school’s digital newspaper under the supervision of Mrs. Jenny Brown. These are students who have a personal interest in photography and journalism and who give up their personal time to publish the school news in a student- friendly format. The digital newspaper covers such areas as sports, politics, school events, student talent, and community issues. The newspaper staff works together to create their assigned news pieces and to publish the newspaper. Upon completion, it is posted on John Hardin High’s school webpage.
