Habit 2 – Begin with the End in Mind

Challenge You will each be divided into groups. You will each be given a puzzle in a bag, without the box, so it will be up to your group to figure out what the puzzle is, and to build that puzzle. Work as efficiently as possible! Wait until ALL groups receive their puzzles before beginning.

Why did we do the puzzle activity? If Habit #2 is about beginning with the end (your goal) in mind, why did we build puzzles? What were the difficulties when you received the puzzle in the beginning? Was it easier with the box? Did you feel at least you had a plan?

“End in Mind” Means: Deciding where you want to go in life Deciding what your values are and setting goals Thinking beyond today Deciding what direction you want to take with your life

Why is it so important to have an end in mind? When you come to critical crossroads in your life it will help you choose the right path If you don’t decide your own future, someone else will do it for you

Pick Your Own Summit YouTube - Motivational Speech - Pick A Summit The speaker will ask you to follow along in the beginning…please do what he asks! 

What your goals? Or Summits? In your journal, draw a large circle. Think of this circle as you and your WHOLE life, from now until the end. For the next 3-5 minutes write down as many dreams and/or goals have for your self/life. Remember, what do you want to accomplish? What do you want for your life?

Newspaper Activity Five years from now, your local paper does a story about you and they want to interview the person who you are closest to – a parent, a brother or sister, a friend, a boyfriend or girlfriend. What would you want them to say about you? Write the article that would be found in the newspaper along with a picture or illustration of you and paste the sheet in your booklet. Example headline – Family and friends declare: “Gr-r-eat guy!” or It’s only a matter of time before she starts designing your clothes!

Teacher and Students Build Community Garden Emily Chevrier, teacher at a local school, is celebrating with her students today at the opening of our city’s newest community garden. Chevrier launched the group “GROW!” at her school earlier this year. She and her students designed, built, and tended to this astounding green space. Marieke Van Lankvelt, close friends of Chevrier, tells Daily News that, “Emily was always passionate about food and eating seasonal, locally grown produce”. Marieke recalls the time they spent together at UBC while doing their Bachelor of Education degree. “Emily always believed that people should know where their food comes from, it was just a principle she had I guess.” Emily is described by her family as “hard-working, yet easy going. She is dedicated to her friend and family and her students.” Chevrier is currently completing her Master of Education and hopes to continue this sustainable project at her school for years to come.
