Career Center Allied Health Sciences II Orientation
This session is designed to prepare both parents/students with the necessary information needed for students to be ready to participate in clinical rotations in the spring.
To have every student prepared and excited about their clinical experience. To offer our students the best experience possible. To do this: Planning and Organization on everyone’s part is essential.
Clinical rotations begin the last week in January. Clinical rotations end in late April/(early)May.
The following are requirements in order for students to participate in the clinical experience. 1. Allied Health Standards (signed) 2. Student Contract (signed) 3. CPR – (unexpired card) 4. Updated Immunizations 5. Approved Uniforms (Heidi’s on Stratford Rd) 6. Proof of Medical Insurance 7. Social Security Card/Driver’s License 8. Transportation to and from clinical site. 9. Background screening and drug testing.
A written agreement between student/parent/teacher/principal regarding requirements, attendance, and professional demeanor during the clinical rotation. Please refer to handout.
CPR Certification – Students may be certified through American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Certification cannot expire while student is participating in clinical rotation. Two (2) Saturday classes will be offered at Career Center in October and November. Average cost of CPR class: $55 - $100.
◦ New policies and procedures in our participating host facilities have given us added immunization requirements for students and instructors. ◦ The following immunizations are required, with proof of such immunizations, before a student may start the clinical rotation: Hepatitis B Series (most students received the series in sixth grade. If no series given, students may provide a declination form or titer) Current tetanus vaccine (within past 5 years) H1N1 vaccine Seasonal flu vaccine Two tuberculin skin tests (the second to be within 60 days of the first) DPT Proof of Chicken Pox (note from parent) or Varicella vaccine.
Our Host Facilities are now requiring that anyone whom provides direct patient care have a background check and drug screening. WSFCS will provide these services at a cost to the student/parent. Students must have a clear drug screen and background check to participate in the clinical rotation.
Refer to handout. Uniform color this year is surgical green. Males and females will wear green tops and pants as well as surgical green lab jackets. Shoes must be white leather or leather like. (no cloth shoes) Dates set aside for ordering uniforms from Heidi’s on Stratford Rd. is October 18 – 30. Students receive a 25% discount when they order and pay for uniforms during these dates. Students must also have a watch with second hand.
Refer to handout Students/Parents will need to sign form stating what their wishes are regarding students transportation to and from clinicals. Career Center will NOT provide transportation to clinical sites. Students will NOT be allowed to transport other students unless parents have signed the form stating so. Instructors cannot transport students.
