Journalism Editorial Writing Week 4

Swbat analyze the characteristics of an editorial DO NOW New Headlines: – Spend 5 minutes and look up the top stories of the day. – Switch to the editorial section of the newspaper HW Bring in a newspaper of your choosing tomorrow. Brainstorm an editorial idea

Characteristics of an Editorial What makes an editorial good—readable— relatable?

The Catch NY POST: An average girl became the ‘White Widow’An average girl became the ‘White Widow’ When Samantha Laithwaite’s husband blew up a London subway, she played the grieving victim. Then she became a killer. NY Daily News: Firearms: the terror of our time As always, it was the middle of the night and I heard the window open and felt the breeze on my face. It was my grandfather, long dead but an occasional visitor from God-knows-where. I wiped the sleep from my eyes and sat up in bed.

Looking Through Examples Choose a different newspaper from last week. So if you worked with the NY Post and the NYT, choose a different paper. Read through the editorials. Make a list of the topics. Go through my checklist sheet with your group.
