Cholesterol History and definition 1954 – the cientist David Kritchevsky, showed that cholesterol produced atherosclerosis in rabbits Is a steroid, found in cell membranes and transported in the blood plasma of all animals. It is an essential component of cell membranes of mammals. Most of the cholesterol is present in the body synthesized by the body itself and only a small part acquired by the diet. Our body needs some cholesterol to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help you digest foods. Two kinds of lipoproteins carry cholesterol throughout our body: Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) High-density lipoproteins (HDL) Having healthy levels of both types lipoproteins is important What it is? Tipes HDL, “good cholesterol”, mops up excess cholesterol and brings it to the liver for disposal. LDL, “bad cholesterol”, also has an important job: it transports cholesterol and fat from the liver to the rest of the body Lp(a), can help restore damaged blood vessels in a healthy body. But some people have too much Lp(a), and it can concentrate at the damaged artery sites, leading to plaque buildup. Introduction What it is? Triglycerides Triglycerides are the most common form of fat in the body and is used to provide energy for the body.
