The United States of America The USA is one of the English-speaking countries which occupies the middle part of North America and stretches from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. The United States of America borders on Canada in the North and on Mexico in the South. It also has a sea border with Russia. The continental part of the USA varies greatly because it is the fourth largest country in the world (after Russia, Canada and China). The Cordilleras are located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Between the Rocky Mountains in the West and the Appalachian Mountains in the East are the Great Plains, the Central Lowland and the Mississippi Valley.

The United States of America The five Great Lakes, between the USA and Canada, are joined together by short rivers or canals, and the Saint Lawrence River joins them to the Atlantic Ocean. The main river of the country is the Mississippi, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico. Why does the USA have several types of climate?

Washington, DC

The Red ,White and Blue What is this name for? What is another name of the American Flag? Why did the original flag have 13 stars and 13 stripes? There are now 15 stripes on it, aren’t there? What do the colours of the USA Flag mean? What does the 50th star mean?

Check up your knowledge Find the appropriate answers The American flag didn’t always have 50 stars and 13 stripes. In 1777, the original flag had 13 stars and 13 stripes for the 13 colonies. The 13 colonies became the first 13 states. The American flag has different names. One of them is “The Stars and the Stripes”. In 1959, Alaska and Hawaii joined the United States. So now there are 50 stars on the flag. This name is for the colours of the American flag. In 1794,the flag had 15 stars and 15 stripes. It was a great problem for its makers because the flag was getting too big. So in 1818, Congress decided to have only 13 stripes on the flag. They decided to add one star for each state. There are now fifty stars on the USA flag, one for each state. The thirteen stripes represent the original 13 states. The red colour of the stripes means valour and courage, the white colour means purity and chastity, the blue colour means stableness and justice 1-d 2-b 3-a 4-e 5-f 6-c
