The University System of Georgia If you are planning on attending a 4-year college in Georgia, the University System of Georgia has a core curriculum that must be met in order to gain acceptance. If you do not meet the core requirements there are other routes you can take to ultimately achieve your goal. Let’s look at the first scenario: First – if you are planning to attend a 4-year research institution like KSU, GSU, GT, UGA – you must meet the minimum requirements to apply: An acceptable GPA (which varies from school to school) in the following areas: 4 units of English 4 units of Math 4 units of Science 3 units of Social Studies 2 units of the same foreign language And of course, you have to have a good ACT or SAT score (see additional slides)

What are the alternatives? If you do not meet the requirements for a 4-year research institution, begin researching state and two- year colleges that you may attend. At the end of two years – and having met the requirements to transfer, you can look into attending almost ANY 4-year institution you want! Georgia Perimeter, for example, has a guaranteed transfer admission program for students who desire to transfer to several 4-year schools.

Ask yourself: 1. What career (s) am I interested in? 2. What experience and/or additional education is required to work in this field? 3. Do I have the prerequisites I need to move in to this career from high school? How can I get there from here… How do you know if a research institution is right for you?

Here are some fast facts you should know There are deadline dates to apply to colleges (check them) Technical schools offer certificates that can be completed in 8 months to two years (HOPE grants pay for tech school!!) that can send you into the workplace making $$$$$ You may attend a tech school, earn a certificate in a specialized field AND transfer to a four year college…
