Education abroad is actually quite affordable! Semester Programs  Tuition  $5000 program fee  $100 application fee Summer Programs  CUA Tuition  Program fee varies  $100 application fee Semester programs cost roughly the same as staying on campus. Additional cost: food is usually not included, R/T airfare, visa, passport, required vaccinations

On-site living costs vary by location Low Cost of Living  Latin America  Asia  Africa  Middle East High Cost of Living  Western Europe  Ireland, UK  Australia

Costs of Accommodations  Type of housing: homestay, dorm, apartment  Apartment options are usually higher  Distance to classes (commuting, local transportation)  Meals (homestay options usually include meals)

Cost by Program Duration  Semester is usually a better value than the summer in terms of value for the money  Longer programs have more scholarships  Fall semester is better for scholarships  Summer programs are a great way to earn credits toward your degree  Summer is a great time to travel independently before or after a 3-6 week program

Living on a Budget  Live like the local students and seek out local deals  Eating out and traveling every weekend can add up  Pubs are great places to meet people but it also adds up  Prepare your meals at home to the degree possible, pack your lunch  Create an actual budget and try to stick to it  Talk to past participants and ask for tips and advice  Utilize low-cost airlines and package deals for weekends  Beware of bank fees and cell phone overages  Student discounts in museums, by airlines, on trains, etc.

Funding Sources: Scholarships  Start looking early.  Use on-campus resources  Writing Center (helps with essays and proposals)  CUAbroad Office (a great resource in general)  Scholarships web page   Do not limit your search to education abroad scholarships. Most scholarships that can be used for on-campus study can also be used for education abroad.
