Summary Enterprises are increasingly demanding the same capabilities for their “off network” sites as those that can effectively ride on their terrestrial infrastructure. Broadband-based satellite solutions that are optimized for TCP-IP offer the capability for providing voice, data, and video services to these sites. While such capability has traditionally been provided with dedicated bandwidth (CIR’s), the cost of such services more often outweighed the need / benefit of the solution. Shared, oversubscribed satellite services, taking advantage of the bursty, asynchronous nature of IP, can provide such services in a cost effective manner. However, in order to provide enterprise-class voice (as well as other real time solutions) on such a network, requires a thorough understanding and implementation of a robust set of real time management features. Such services, based on the IP-based iDirect technology are available today to provide such a solution.
