Why MetroCluster? Datacenter 1 Single Controller Loop A Loop B

HA Cluster Active Active Why MetroCluster? Datacenter 1 HA Cluster Active Active Heartbeat So what I'm going to do in this talk, is I'm going to talk about what's going on in the industry overall. The trends affecting Network Appliance; the trends affecting our competitors and talk about what's the business landscape and try and use that as tool to help people understand what this new portfolio of businesses means for us. To start with one of the really interesting things is why do we have an opportunity to do what we're trying to do. To create a whole portfolio of businesses and businesses that move further up the data management stack not just about storage. Decru doesn't have any disc drives in it that’s kind of different for the way we typically think. Well if you look up here these are the issues that people have historically dealt with when they thought about storage. Operations stuff, 24x7, controlling costs of course but data is turning into something different.

Configurations Stretch MetroCluster Fabric MetroCluster Metrocluster MetroCluster is a NetApp unique, cost-effective synchronous replication solution for combined HA and DR, protecting against site disasters within a campus or metropolitan area Configurations Stretch MetroCluster Campus DR protection - Distances up to 500m Fabric MetroCluster Metropolitan DR protection - Distances to 100 km

MetroCluster Features & Benefits Highest Level of Availability Provides superior availability to RAID 1 + 0 Protects against data center failures and site disasters for a negligible cost premium Simple & Fast Recovery Automatic Recovery for any single component failure Single command recovery even for major catastrophic site failures Cost-effective Combines High Availability clustering with Disaster Recovery mirroring Zero Data Loss Synchronous data replication Enhanced Read Performance Up to 80% improved read performance for random reads, due to simultaneous read operations occurring on both plexes

MetroCluster Components Cluster license Provides automatic failover capability between sites in case of most hardware failures SyncMirror Provides an up-to-date copy of data at the remote site; data is ready for access after failover without administrator intervention ClusterRemote Provides a mechanism for administrator to declare site disaster and initiate a site failover via a single command for ease of use FC Interconnect Provides filer connectivity between sites that are greater than 500 meters apart; enables sites to be located at a safe distance away from each other

MetroCluster is a Netapp unique, Summary MetroCluster is a Netapp unique, cost-effective synchronous replication solution For combined high availability and disaster recovery within a campus or metro area, that minimizes downtime with no data loss For multiple sites within a campus or metro environment, that need a highly resilient storage-cluster solution for business-critical applications

Simplifying Data Management So what's my point out of all of this? I think it's really exciting to be just beginning another one of these transitions. I don't think we're finished with SAN or understanding enterprise capabilities. That's a long, long trend, but these new things that we're putting in place: I believe they will be the characteristics of NetApp that five years from now we look back and maybe Rob will stand up and say, :you know what? How many people were here before it was a portfolio of businesses as opposed to after it was a portfolio of businesses?” And we'll look back and see that same amount of change driven by what it took to make that successful. That's my vision and aspiration for the future. Thank you very much.
