Species Profile Taxonomy: - Kingdom: Animalia - Phylum: Chordata - Class: Mammalia - Order: Primates -Family: Ceropithecidae -Genus: Macaca - Species: Silenus Common Name: Lion-tailed Macaque, Wanderoo, Wanderu and Wanderoe Scientific Name: Macaca silenus Geographic range: Lion- tailed macaques live in southwest India in of evergreen forests, called sholas, in the Western Ghats range. These social monkeys live in rainforest treetops in India's Western Ghats mountains. Habitat: Lion tailed macaque are unique among macaques in being limited in habitation of tropical wet evergreen forest. But may also be found in forest in country and in forest.

Species Profile Continues Current Population - the total wild population is estimated to be less than 2,500 individuals, made with 47 isolated in seven different location. - The population tend is small and in forests that isolated from each other. Less than 2,000 are mature. Population Trend: The population trend is decreasing. Type of System -Terrestrial and Arboreal it defends its area first with loud cries towards the invading troops.

Major Threats 1) Habitat and the population fragmentation 2) Hunting 3) Habitat Degradation

Major Threats 1) Habitat and Population Fragmentation - Most of the rainforest in Western Ghat where lion-tailed macaque lives have been lost and the remaining habitat of lion-tailed macaques occurs small as a group with 1-4 groups.

Major Treats Continues 2) Hunting - Hunting was the serious part of the major threat in certain parts, lion-tailed macaque are threatened by the non subsistence and subsistence hunting for food.

Major Threats continues 3) Habitat Degradation - The patches of the rainforests has been degraded which means to due with logging, plantation, and the timber wood collection. First of all logging has reduce the population of the lion-tailed macaques, and still in continues to be one of the major threats for small population such as where the lion-tailed macaque living right now.

Food Web ON A SERPERATE PIEACE OF PAPER

Classification Map The phylum of lion-tailed macaque is chordata - This is not the only animal that falls under chordata there's is more animals. (3) other organisms that are found in this phylum are mountain lion, fishes, and zebras. - Chordata are consists of notochord, notochord are the length of its body.

Consequences If the lion-tailed macaques becomes extinct then: - there might be less than 4,000 lion-tailed macaque left in the wild. - Negative impact on human welfare - Lion-tailed macaque depends on clean water, natural flood controls and other forest that they need, without these the ecological services, it may be at risks. -

Personal Response Biodiversity is important because it provides us with food, clean air, medicines and the beauty. Biodiversity is important because of the human society, the continued of evolution, and the stability of food webs. Firstly, biodiversity is important because of the ecosystem that we have, all living beings on this planet depend on each other for survival, and this is why biodiversity is important because it revolves around us. The human society is the most intelligent of species in this planet. Human depends on nature to sustain our basic needs, without nitrogen fixing bacteria we would never been able to grow crops, you wont be able to eat food, without biodiversity we will not obtain food for ourselves. Biodiversity is not only important to humans it is also important to every species that are living on earth. Continues on the next slide :)

Personal Response Continued Secondly, biodiversity is important because of the continued of evolution, this is the important role of biodiversity, without evolution no species such as human, animal wont live on earth. Biodiversity is the one that created life, without biodiversity and evolution life will not inhabited on earth. The rate of evolution of species are extinct increases while the rates of evolution will remain the same , it will effect the life cycle on the planet and the environmental that consider biodiversity as am important factor for the continued of evolution. Lastly, biodiversity is important because of the stability of food web that we have, without the stability of food it can spell a disaster for the ecosystems, when the carnivorous animal is extinct , the population of the secondary consumers will increase. The increase number will effect the herbivores by pressuring the vegetables, and the lack of vegetable will effect the precipitation, and that is not good, that's why biodiversity with stability of food is important for species. People should not be asking question such as “ Is biodiversity important?” because there are no simple answer to this question because human should know about the environment factor that is happening all around them.

Action Plan As you may see this ad, the hunters are hunting for lion-tailed macaque with a source of medicine. If lion- tailed macaque are decline in population, it may not be good because it will impact the humans welfare. IF YOU DONT WANT IT TO IMPACT THE HUMANS WELFARE TAKE ACTION!!! HOW CAN U HELP? ANSWER TO THAT IS: -BY ADOPTING ONE OF THEM
