The Scroll and the Lamb Revelation 5

The Scroll and the Lamb - Rev. 5 We’ve seen “What Christ Thinks of the Church” (book by John R.W. Stott) We need reminders… Christ’s power in us, Jesus knows us, God reigns! “there is a powerful God at the center of creation who is worthy of our trust and worthy of our praise in the troubled days ahead.” (Graham p. 72) “him who sits on the throne” ??

The Scroll and the Lamb - Rev. 5 ‘He’ has a scroll in his hand… but no one can break the seven seals on it. Why is John crying? “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” Wow, the strong powerful lion redeeming and bringing salvation!

The Scroll and the Lamb - Rev. 5 Does he see a lion? “Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.” (5:6) Sacrifice is the power reclaiming and restoring, fullness of Triune God! “HE IS WORTHY!!”

The Scroll and the Lamb - Rev. 5 Immediately: worship the Lamb! Worship with music (harp), prayers (incense), and ourselves (elders)! Jesus sacrifice central to NT “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”

The Scroll and the Lamb - Rev. 5 Then all heaven joins in praise! Millions, Billions, Trillions??? Hallelujah Chorus based on this text. Lamb is “at the heart of understanding God.” Simple? Know Jesus, Know God. Complicated? All Scripture/All creation reveal him. “No one has ever seen God, but…

The Scroll and the Lamb - Rev. 5..God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.” “The presence of God blinds us in his glorious splendor. We can’t break through the world and fully grasp who he is. But in Jesus, the Lamb, we see all of God we need to see. From Jesus we learn all of God we need to know.” (Graham p. 72) We are in His name! Worship and Praise Him! Love Him, live in His Love!
