Practice- 10 minutes Write an I;I pattern sentence about Dorothy and the Wicked Witch of the West Write an I;I pattern sentence about Dorothy and Mrs. Gulch and Toto back in Kansas. Share with a neighbor and edit for the following: -2 complete sentences -Semi-colon used between them -Spelling and grammar errors are fixed

Example: D=With an explosion of flame, [NOT A SENTENCE] I= the Wicked Witch of the West disappeared. [SENTENCE] With an explosion of flame, the Wicked Witch of the West disappeared. Example: Since the roads are covered with ice, the county is sending out the sand and salt trucks. Example: Although I love her dearly, her laugh drives me crazy!

A pronoun replaces a noun to simplify writing and to avoid over-use of a noun’s name Some include I, he, she, we // his, her, our // us, they, them Some include it, they, them, this, that, these, those Clint/He used the Robinson family’s/their mower when Clint’s/his mower broke down.

Adjectives Adjectives: What do they do? They describe nouns and pronouns. What questions do they answer? They answer the following questions: What kind? Which one? How many? How much?

List all of the adjectives – use the questions to help you find them: 1. Our first idea met with many strong complaints.   2. The happy shout from the three frolicking children greeted their dad on his return. 3. Star Wars is an exciting movie for most people. 4. The flooded basement caused terrible damage. 5. The Johanson family just returned from a hot, exhausting trip to Arizona.

Verbs Define a VERB: Identify the verbs in this sentence and tell if the verbs are written in the past, present or future tense: Shining and glistening in the sun , the icicles sparkle like elongated diamonds. A verb is a word which shows action and its form tells WHEN the action occurred [ tense]: past, present, or future Shining and glistening in the sun , the icicles sparkle like elongated diamonds.
