 Child labor is widely practiced in almost every part of the world. In Kenya the common causes are, poverty, lack of education especially the girls whose parents think that educating them is a waste, children's refusal to attend schools, home background whereby some parents encourage their children to do odd jobs to cater for their needs. Young girls who are forced into early marriages have to work to fend for themselves. In cases where both parents are dead, the orphans usually lack some support which is vital in their upbringing, so they end up doing jobs while they are still very young in order to survive. Lack of employment, whereby parents lack jobs to support their families thus forcing the children to look for jobs so as to assist in their families. Children who are abandoned by their parents have to work to cater for their basic needs.

 Accidents are the leading cause of death for children between the ages of 10 and 19. Teenagers are particularly vulnerable to accidents at work. A 2006 survey found that 1 in 13 youth had been injured on the job. In 2008, 34 workers under 18 died in the workplace.

 Kenya, one of the most developed and economically robust nations in Africa, descended into ethnic violence after a disputed presidential election in 2007 and has struggled to regain stability ever since.a disputed presidential election in 2007

 In 1998, the International Labor Organization (ILO) estimated that 40 percent of children between the ages of 10 and 14 in Kenya were working. According to a child labor survey conducted by the Kenyan Central Bureau of Statistics, an estimated 17.4 percent (1.9 million) of children between the ages of 5 and 17 were economically active in 2000.

Education is vital to a thriving society. A society that is ignorant will become the breeding ground for violence and intolerance. But an educated society will be a breeding ground for tolerance and peace, justice and understanding, innovation and advancement, and positive, self-sustaining growth. It's important to educate our children, no matter where they live, for they will grow to become responsible citizens of their society. Each child represents a future, the future of the community, of the country, and indeed the future of the whole world.
