What is SERVE??  1 week of service with other Lehigh students and an advisor  Travel/sightseeing/FUN  Learning about the importance of volunteering  Learning about a different culture  Meeting other people  Learn about yourself/different community

Habitat for Humanity  Their Mission: Habitat for Humanity believes that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. They build and repair houses all over the world using volunteer labor and donations. The partner families purchase these houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans or innovative financing methods.  Why?: 2 billion people around the world live in slum housing and more than 100 million are homeless

Environmental: Past Projects  Varies projects from creating new trails to helping protect a species from going extinct  Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge  Wells, Maine  Lake Metroparks  Willowick, Ohio

Twin Lakes State Park  Almost 500 acres of natural beauty  Hour away from Richmond, VA  Assist in building low impact picnic pads on a 1 mile trail that over looks the lake  Accommodations: the Group Lodge, which has four bedrooms with two sets of bunk beds, great room, full kitchen, patio, TV + DVD player

Costs?  $100 deposit at registration (refundable for 14 days after notification)! This makes students want to commit to our program.  An additional $200 if accepted onto trip.  Teams will decide to fundraise or not- the more funds raised- the less you have to pay!  You pay for any fun activities or sightseeing outside of volunteering  This cost covers transportation, food, program fees, and housing.  The Student Opportunity Fund is a great way to get financial aid for this trip, if eligible!

How much of my time is needed?  Depending on the service project for the team, your team leader will decide appropriately how much your team should meet before traveling  1 full week during Winter or Spring Break!

Rules?  Students are expected to follow all rules outlined in the Student Code of Conduct  Any problems or issues that arise during the trip will be taken care of by the University Committee on Discipline  Any serious problems or issues will result in the immediate removal of the student from the program and the location  Behavior that prevents a student from partaking in service  Abuse of alcohol or illegal substances  Behavior that is detrimental to the group dynamics  In order to participate in SERVE Students will be required to sign and follow a behavioral contract

How Can I Apply?  Application is online. Found under Lehigh Community Service Office’s website.  Participation in program is dependent on application- so please put effort into it!  Applications are due November 14 th by 5pm!  Don’t forget the Deposit! (Refundable up through Nov 30 th )
