Let’s see how much you remember Clear desks. “Quiz” yourself. Tomorrow we will work on researching our recipients which will help us write a better letter. We will start drafting our letter via the graphic organizers. HW: backside of worksheet. Pick which style of letter you will write. Consider who you will write to (recipients).

English 10 DO NOW: 10/29/13 Take a sample business letter. Identify the parts of the business letter in the sample. Write on the letter, drawing arrows or bracketing the sections as you label them. Do not use any notes. Quiz yourself. If you get stuck. Wait a minute or so, then you may check your notes. ELITE THINKERS: Do you see the difference between the two examples??

Success Today Means You have researched your recipient and have found qualities or experiences they look for that you have. You have completed your graphic organizer and maybe even started typing your draft.

English 10: DO NOW 10/30/13 Read the example letter of interest body. Using your graphic organizer label the following parts: Introduction Paragraph Value/Skill #1, Value/Skill #2, Value/Skill #3 Request the job sentence Closing Paragraph Thank you statement. Request the job statement Call to action (where you mention the next step) ELITE: Then comment on any good “essay” techniques or strategies you noticed in this letter. (try for 2 or 3 ideas)

Success today means You completed your typed letter and submitted it to edmodo. BRING A PRINT COPY TOMORROW You used the resources posted on edmodo (tutorial, prompt with rubric or readwritethink’s letter generator: can’t save partial work with it so be warned) Proofread your letter using Grammarly.com You can actually use your letter now or in the future. Last day in class to work on this: letter due Monday
