What is a LMS?  Powerful software for managing complex data bases used for:  Managing Curriculum  Training Materials  And Evaluation Tools

…Continued  LMS software and products allow any organization to:  Develop electronic coursework  Delivery it with reach and flexibility  Manage its use over time

Where is it used?  The LMS has become a powerful tool most commonly found in:  Consulting Companies  Extension Schools  Any corporation looking to get a better grasp on continuing education of its workforce  Colleges and some secondary education institutions

Components of LMS  Creation of class rosters, control over registration process, and ability to create waiting lists.  Upload and management of documents containing curricular content.  Delivery of course content over web-based interfaces, allowing remote participation.  Creation and Publication of course calendars.  Interaction between and among students, including instant messaging, , and discussion forums.  Methods of assessment and testing. (Like creating pop quizzes)

Additional features of LMS  Automatic Enrollment and reminders for mandatory courses.  Options for management access, such as to approve materials for participation.  Integration with human resource systems for tracking employment eligibility, performance goals, and similar priorities.  Control over access and class groupings

Advantages of LMS  Easily adapting and reusing materials over time.  More choices for creators of curriculum, such as method of delivery, designs of materials, and techniques for evaluation.  Improvement is Professional Development and Evaluation.

The future of LMS  New uses for e-learning content, ranging from arts to marketing communications.  Tighter integration into collaborative software platforms and messaging frameworks, such as GroupWise and Microsoft Outlook.  Further Integration with talent management software systems.
