Introduction to the Curriculum Management System http://cms.medcol.mw/comcms/

What is the CMS? A web-based support tool for the Curriculum Used by students to find supporting materials for their course Used by staff to provide additional support to students, to communicate to students Accessible at anytime Self-directed study

What the CMS “IS NOT” Is NOT a replacement to teaching Is NOT a replacement to students finding information for themselves Is NOT going to take up all of your time

Two Approaches... Supporting Timetable Activities Information to support Lectures, Tutorials, etc Contains: Summary, Learning Objectives, Resources, Reading List Supporting the Curriculum Information to support a wider range of teaching Suitable for clinical attachments One location to find useful information Outline of subject, Learning Objectives, Resources, Reading List

Students Check announcements regularly Check timetable View all supporting pages before and after face-to-face teaching Read and understand Learning Objectives Use additional resources for self-directed study

Staff Check that their teaching is supported Curriculum Pages Timetabled elements Write Learning Objectives and summaries for their elements Upload supporting teaching materials PowerPoint Reading Lists Link to additional teaching materials University of Edinburgh Resources Websites E-Learning Materials

Course Coordinators Responsible for the Curriculum pages Write Learning Objectives for topics Provide a summary of the teaching Create additional “sub-topics” to create structure that is easy to use Upload teaching materials Link to additional materials Communicate to subject teachers to manage content

An investment of time Create once Use year-after-year with minor changes Identify how to maximise face-to-face teaching time Supports self directed study

Benefits Creating greater understanding of curriculum Supports your teaching Great revision tool Accessible at any time Integrating e-Learning for teaching that could otherwise not take place
