Home Research Before you make your career choice, it is very important to do some research to see which career fits your personality. A good way to help decide which career is just for you is to take an evaluation by looking at key interests and traits to find out what job you would be best at. On my self evaluation quiz, I had career choices from Dentist to Executive Chef. But I was most interested in researching an orthopedic Technologist because that is a field of medicine that I am interested in. Sample Job Application Home Job Application Probably the most important element while applying for a job is the job application itself. It is usually the first impression that you make to your employer. It is used to convince them that YOU are the best candidate for the job. Tips: Use proper English Sound confident Be honest Avoid misspelled words Make sure the application is clean and neat PROOFREAD Sample Job Application Katie Wangler August 11, 2009

Resume Home The resume is a selling tool that outlines your skills and experiences so than an employer can see how you can contribute to their company. The more you know about the employer and the position, the more you can tailor your resume to fit the job. Creating Your Own Resume Choose from three types of resumes: chronological, functional, or combination. Make sure you have an idea of what you are going to write before you actually write it down. Include references and keep it brief and too the point. Make sure your resume is typed, not written and be sure to be neat. Use the format at http://www.nextsteps.org/resume/res1.html Proofread your resume when you are done Example Resume Katie Wangler August 11, 2009

Home Cover Letter The cover letter provides an opportunity for you to personalize your job application and tell your potential employer how well fit for the job you are. It is the first thing your potential employer will see, so if is well written and looks nice, you will make a good first impression. EXAMPLE Katie Wangler August 11, 2009

Home Reference Sheet Your reference sheet is important because it gives your employer a list of previous employers to contact in order to make sure you are responsible enough for their company. Make sure you have approval of your references before turning in your resume!! Sample Reference Sheet Katie Wangler August 11, 2009

Common Interview Questions Home Interview How to dress…. The interview is the most important step in the hiring process. It lets your employer see, first hand, if you are fit for the job. Make sure you dress to impress, speak slowly and carefully, make eye contact with the person talking to you, have good manners, smile, and be confident but not arrogant. GOOD!! BAD!! Common Interview Questions Katie Wangler August 11, 2009

Sample Thank You Letter Home The last step in the hiring process is writing a thank you letter. This is a way of letting your potential employer you appreciate the time they took to interview you. It also leaves a positive lasting impression long after the interview is over. Thank you letters should be formal and typed. They should be sincere and they should also be a way to set you apart from the crowd even more. You should also reiterate one last time why you are right for the job. Sample Thank You Letter Katie Wangler August 11, 2009

Letter of Resignation Home The letter of resignation is a way of letting your employer you are leaving the your job. This should be polite, even if you did not enjoy your job. You do not want to hurt your chances of getting a reference from this employer for a future job. Example Letter Katie Wangler August 11, 2009
