WHAT IS THUNDERBOLT? Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices through a single, compact port. Thunderbolt equipped with two nonstop lanes; PCI Express (data) and DisplayPort (video). Through one compact cable, you can connect high-performance data devices to high-resolution displays. It sets the new standard for speed and performance.

TECHNOLOGY Thunderbolt technology combines PCI Express and DisplayPort* I/O protocols onto a single highly-efficient metaprotocol. Single cable transmission along with traffic routing management

Thunderbolt was developed by :  Intel with technical collaboration from Apple. using the same Apple-developed connector as Mini DisplayPort, which is electrically identical toDisplayPort, but uses a smaller, non-locking connector. Though the Thunderbolt trademark was registered by Apple, full rights belong to Intel which subsequently led to the transfer of the registration from Apple to Intel.

HISTORY OF THUNDERBOLT Thunderbolt began at Intel Labs with a simple concept: create an incredibly fast input/output technology that just about anything can plug into. Light Peak at the 2009 Intel Developer Forum (IDF) Apple Announced Thunderbolt in Its macbook pro line up

Thunderbolt link connections

General specifications External yes Length 3 meters maximum (copper) Width 7.4 mm male (8.3 mm female) Hot pluggable Daisy chain Yes, up to 6 devices Audio signal Via DisplayPort protocol or USB-based external audio cards. Supports audio through HDMI adapters. Pins 20 Connector Mini display port Max voltage 18 V (bus power) Max Current 550 mA (10 W max)

ADVANTAGES Thunderbolt I/O technology gives you two channels on the same connector with 10 Gbps of throughput in both directions. That makes Thunderbolt ultrafast and ultraflexible.

ADVANTAGES High performance on display : Thunderbolt I/O technology provides native support for the DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, and VGA displays through the use of existing adapter.s

ADVANTAGES One small port. One giant leap in possibilities. You can connect external devices like RAID arrays and video capture solutions directly to your Computer and get PCI Express performance. That’s a first for any computer. Thunderbolt also provides 10 watts of power to peripherals, so you can tackle workstation-class projects. With PCI Express technology, you can use existing USB and FireWire peripherals even connect to Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel networks using simple adapters.

ADVANTAGES Thunderbolt I/O technology allows you to daisy- chain up to six Thunderbolt peripherals. With no decreases speed. Unlike with USB, where connecting multiple device can affect the performance of the entire USB bus. Thunderbolt provides 10 watts of power to peripherals, so you can tackle workstation-class projects

PERIPHERALS Thunderbolt-ready devices : Display: Apple Thunderbolt Display

PERIPHERALS Storage Thunderbolt-ready devices : -Promise Pegasus R4 and Pegasus R6 -LaCie Little Big Disk and 2big -Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt Adapter -Elgato Thunderbolt SSD

PERIPHERALS Thunderbolt-ready devices Video Camera Video Capture -Blackmagic Cinema Camera Video Capture -AJA Io XT -Blackmagic UltraStudio 3D, Intensity Extreme, and Intensity Shuttle -Matrox MX02

THE CONCLUSION In the future, thunderbolt technology will be on all devices. Because it sets new standards for speed, flexibility, and simplicity. With 10 Gbps of throughput in both direction. You can move data to and from peripherals up to 20 times faster than with USB 2.0 and up to 12 times faster than with FireWire 800.

THANKYOU 
