New Political Parties in Quebec and Canada

Communist Party Founded 1921 Wanted Abolition of private property Separation of Church and State End of Capitalism Not very popular, but members became union leaders in Quebec.

Socialist Wanted to reform politics and economics. Wanted Free Health Care Government have greater control over public services Ex: Cooperative Commonwealth Federation (1933) Not very popular in Quebec

Fascist Inspired by and aligned with Hitler’s ideas. Totalitarian nationalist regime. Adrien Arcand founds the Parti National Social Chretien in 1934. Not very strong or popular.

Populist Social Credit Party (“Socreds”) “To support the population morally and economically Monthly allowance to citizens Very right-wing values

Meanwhile, in Quebec Traditional Nationalism is popular Stands for: Catholic Religion French Canadian Culture and Heritage French language For some, a RETURN TO THE LAND UNION NATIONALE is founded in 1935
