TinCOM – TeleInclusion Community Finding work in a digital age Lauren Small, Senior Researcher, Inclusion Matt Wojtyniak, KCC Works Manager

Who we are.... Inclusion is a not-for profit organisation dedicated to tackling disadvantage in the labour market through research and events. Kensington and Chelsea College, further education college in west London, offers a range of opportunities from full and part time vocational courses to higher education, work-based learning and Apprenticeships 10,000 students taking 900 courses annually Dedicated entry to employment team, ‘KCC Works’ Employer focused provision

Why is digital inclusion important? Educational benefits and subsequent increased earning potential could be experienced by introducing the internet into homes that do not have internet access or a computer Can increase people’s chances of getting a job and increase lifetime earnings of around £12,000 per person

What is TinCom? EU funded project: UK and Italy Pilot project: testing innovative methods to support young people into work Brings together young people and practitioners Provides online job search and job coaching Opportunity for practitioners to discuss issues Young people can communicate with each other to share tips

Supporting Young People Keeping learners engaged. Raising levels of motivation and self esteem Supporting learners when and where they are actively seeking work. Recognising the importance of the web for digital natives

TINCOM KCC Started running from January 2013 Integrated into the KCC ‘Work Club’ Targeting Young People actively seeking apprenticeships Each learner is assigned a ‘Job Coach’ to provide 1:1 support

Why it works  Learners are able to keep in touch with their Job Coach  Discussing ideas with each other  Fits neatly into a wider package of support.  A format learners are comfortable with.  Enables us to provide the right support to learners.  Better matching and screening for employers  Sharing good practice between providers

What do young people want? AdviceFeedback Suitable jobs Skills transfer simplicity WORK!
