AIDS in Russia ● 7 million drug addicts ● More than 1 million people with HIV – mostly because of sharing needles ● 1% of year olds in Moscow ● 1 in 70 young year olds in Togliatti ● Numbers doubling every 12 months in some areas

What about India ? ● AIDS is a major threat ● India could see more HIV than the whole world has seen since the beginning ● 50% of adults in parts of Mumbai carry an active STD ● 2.5% HI|V in Mumbai population ● Rising HIV among at-risk groups ● Spread into general population – ante-natal clinics
