DigitalGREEN / SPRING partnership (Strengthening Partnerships and Results in Innovations Nutrition Globally) Pilot project in Keonjhar district, Odisha Two blocks: Patna, Gatagaon; 30 villages

Accomplishments to date Established partnerships (May – Oct 2012) Conducted formative research & analysis (Nov 2012) – Societal food taboos/constraints – Pregnant women work load – Key influencers in community: mothers in laws, husbands Nutrition training held (Feb 2013) – Local community video producers and facilitators – ASHAs, Anganwadi workers Test video produced & tested (Feb 2013) – Complementary feeding – Featuring an ASHA worker

Formative research results FGDs and In-depth interviews conducted in 6 out of the 30 villages Key informant interviews were conducted with health authorities, and village, block and district leaders Research results informed the development of nutrition training materials Priority nutrition behaviour topics became clearer: – Timely and appropriate complementary feeding starting at six months – Diversification of diets – Micronutrient supplementation – Household gardening – Sanitation: hand washing, safe water, and compound hygiene

Nutrition trainings conducted 20+ Video production & dissemination local partner (VARRAT) team members 35+ AWWs + 40 ASHAs working in 30 villages, Keonjhar District Maternal, Infant and Young Child Community Nutrition Training Package

Test video produced Test video topic - complementary feeding – Features ASHA worker explaining topic to young mother – Features cooking demonstration Followed Digital Green process of developing storyboard, shooting & editing, providing technical feedback
