Comenius Meeting London Minutes 8-10 March 2010 Present: Gran Canaria, London, Wales, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Italy and Poland. Apologies: Scotland. The meeting was to present the remaining schools to the group, present the work over the previous months and to evaluate the work offering a way forward. Presentation of the schools in Wales and Bulgaria. These schools were unable to attend the meeting in Las Palmas. Assembly by Eileen Ross, Headteacher. All countries had a chance to introduce themselves and their country in the mother tongue. All schools introduced the work that has been completed over the previous few months. The logo for the project was discussed and the best picture/logo was adopted as the logo of the project. Marius has taken the idea of the tree logo by Poland including the motto ‘Learning Together’. He will create a digital logo for the project.

Items discussed: We discussed the complications of everyone not knowing the title of the key competencies. We need to ensure that everyone knows and uses the same format when presenting stories. Angela said that all co-ordinators must attend the meetings with the option of taking other members of staff in order to fulfill contract of mobilities.

Action Points Two presentations are required for each story – one with the key competencies and one with the activities. Each story must be split into these two presentations. Everyone will use the same template for presenting the key competencies. Sally and Jonathan will create a template and upload to the blog and to all partners. The eight key competencies are: –Communication in mother tongue –Communication in foreign languages –Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology –Digital competence –Learning to Learn –Interpersonal, intercultural and social competence and civic competence –Entrepreneurship –Cultural awareness and expression.

 We will leave the first stories that have been created already, although add the key competencies using the new format to the second story. We will prepare one topic with one story by the next meeting – at discretion of the school.. All new and edited projects to be uploaded to the website straight away. All stories used need to be kept simple. Next meeting: Turkey – 17th to 19th May Flights needed to Istanbul and then connect to Elazig. Eda distributed brochures on the hotel to book. It is approximately 50 euros including breakfast. Akgun Elazig Hotel. We must bring the new presentations. We will compile all of the work so far and we will evaluate the first year of the project in order to compile a report for our national agency.

Going out for dinner after our visit to the Tate modern and a cruise along the river Thames. Beautiful restaurant by the riverside

We were fortunate to meet Boris Johnson.
