Mission Statement The mission of international education in the College of Design is to: provide students with opportunities to enhance their design education by studying their chosen discipline at a location abroad prepare students to become culturally competent global citizens as they pursue a career in design create and maintain relationships with international institutions of higher education through study abroad programs, exchange opportunities and faculty connections promote discussions about design-related international events and issues both inside and outside of the classroom integrate international perspectives into the design curriculum

Vision Statement The vision of international education for the College of Design is to be a nationally and internationally recognized leader in: providing international design education opportunities to our students and faculty integrating international perspectives into our design curricula creating a robust offering of international study choices in which 90% of College of Design graduates have participated

Strategic Planning: College of Design Action Plan Goal 5: Enhance opportunities for students to celebrate many peoples, cultures, and places. Tactics: Develop and implement a plan that ensures every student has at least one cross-cultural educational experience before graduation through studio courses that address diversity within the United States, global practice experiences, participation in a study-abroad program, participation in National Student Exchange, etc. Develop and implement a plan to improve international students’ academic and study abroad experience, and that draws upon their experience for the benefit of the college community. Increase the number of scholarships and total scholarship dollars available for students studying abroad or obtaining a cross cultural experience within the United States.

Draft Goals and Tactics Goal 2: Create and maintain relationships with institutions of higher education, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), businesses and firms Tactics: Maintain strong relationships with international alumni Encourage faculty to develop international collaborations Create more cross-disciplinary collaborations within the college and outside of it Provide greater financial support for faculty to travel internationally on university business Develop and maintain an international internship program
