Caring for Your Klein ISD Device Laptop usage in the classroom When the laptop is on the * docking station in your classroom, the battery is being charged. Wireless should be turned off when the laptop is on the docking station. The docking station should be hard-wired (Ethernet cable) to the network. It is important to be hard-wired when downloading information or streaming video. Be sure to close programs before removing laptop from docking station. Close eInstruction database before removing laptop from the docking station and/or walking around the building with the laptop.

Keeping Your Laptop Clean Your laptop should be turned off when cleaning. The laptop screen can be ruined if any chemicals are used on it. The best thing to use on the screen is a dry microfiber cloth, like those used to clean eye glasses. Do not use paper towels, ammonia, or strong cleaners on the screen under any circumstances. Use only plain water and a soft cloth to remove smudges on the outside of the laptop, keyboard, or touchpad.

Using Your Laptop with Efficiency Pin your favorite software titles to your taskbar by right clicking and selecting “Pin to Taskbar.” Download your favorite program titles from Software Center (do when hardwired). Pin all three browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox) to taskbar so you can easily switch among them. Microsoft Outlook (for ) will need signature placed for this computer. Add school printer by going to Kleinshare  Eiland  Printers Make shortcuts to items you use frequently and customize bookmark bar in browser.

Some Helpful Windows 7 Tips Windows Button + P ---helps if you have issues connecting to Projecter Windows Button + E---helps you see Everything (N drive, Kleinshare, all folders) Windows Rectangle- On the right side of your clock at the bottom right. This toggle button allows you to easily get to your desktop. Sticky Notes- Great tool for “to-do” items. Click your Windows Start button and type in “Sticky Notes” to bring up program.

Access at Home The preferred method of connection is to hard-wire your laptop to your home network. If you choose to connect wirelessly and have issues, Klein ISD help desk is unable to help you. Contact the individual that set up your wireless system at home for assistance. Remember Kleinet is set to be your homepage — it will never be able to be displayed from home. Enter another website in the address bar (such as google) to test connectivity. Web browsing on your laptop always goes through the Klein filter – even at home. You will probably be unable to print at home – most printers require a driver to be installed, and you are unable to install any software.

Access at home from Klein ISD homepage; Employees Employee Connect for N-Drive Employee Connect for KleinShare Employee Access Center for personal financial information Employee - use this link for . Opening Outlook from your computer like you do at home will not work correctly.

Cautionary notes When leaving work or traveling, never leave your laptop visible in the car. Car windows are broken and laptops stolen; restaurant parking lots are notoriously known for laptop thefts. Don’t lay it on a seat when driving — when you brake quickly, it “flies.” There is a device installed that allows the machine to be tracked if stolen. What to do if the laptop is stolen, lost or missing:  When you are on Klein property, call Klein police ( ), report it to your campus administrator, and submit a help desk ticket.  When you are off Klein property, call local police to report the theft, report it to your campus administrator, and submit a help desk ticket.
