General Lab Rules Lab Manager Responsibilities- Ensure every student working in the lab is properly trained (including student teachers) Ensure student training is documented and kept on file, copy forwarded to EHS. Maintain up to date MSDS books on file in the lab and available for review to all working in the lab. Which Regulatory Standards Apply? NC Department of Labor- Occupational Safety and Health Division (OSHA)- Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories- 29 CFR 1910.1450 NIH Guidelines (National Institute of Health)- Oversight for basic and clinical recombinant DNA research Committees on Campus Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee(IACUC)- Oversees those research labs that use animals in their research . Institutional Bio-Safety Committee(IBC)- Oversees those research labs that utilize biological agents Radiation Safety Committee- Oversees those research labs that use radiological agents.
