Can you relate to this? Copyright(c) , First Place Software, Inc. 5 Sandy S. has long loved food and cooking and works in a deli at a food cooperative for $12 per hour. While the job is satisfying, Sandy is not self supporting and is not able to save money for the future. Sandy has not yet moved away from her parents home. Sandy earned a bachelors degree in business four years ago but was not able to find a job at graduation due to the slow economy While in college Sandy worked with data and discovered an aptitude for working numbers in Excel. Data skills coupled with a business degree should enable Sandy to be successful as a data professional. How can Sandy break out of this cycle of under employment and begin career advancement? Jaimie H. is working as a software developer for a large company. Jamie earned a bachelors degree in computer science and writes programs in Java. Jamie sees that all projects require database skills to complete and that adding data skills would be career enhancing. In fact, Jamie has done some SQL queries and believes that joining the Data Services department would be a good career move. How can Jaimie add database skills that can enhance software development and possibly lead to a new career in a high demand field? Pat T. has worked at a number of low paying jobs after dropping out of college. Pat is intelligent has a knack for numbers. Pat is currently working in a large warehouse fulfilling customer orders. Previously Pat worked for a cable television company as a customer service representative. Pat found customer service to be highly stressful and the hours to be demanding. Before that Pat worked in retail – at a supermarket and then at a drug store. Pat struggles to make ends meet. Student loans are a drag. Pat shares an apartment with room mates. Owning a home and a dependable car appear to be out of reach. How can Pat move to better jobs and higher income?
