Objectives Know: To be able to use the internet as a resource. Understand: The use of the internet to teach SS lessons. Be able to: Access websites that can be used as a resource for teaching Social Studies. Use activities to enhance learning that are not textbook based.

In this session, teachers will explore internet activities to teach Social Studies content. Teachers will receive ideas to engage students with research, videos, and other activities that will enhance Social Studies lesson plans.

Do Now Introduce yourself to your team. With your team list two websites that you use in your classrooms. (1 minute each)

1 st Explain differences between goods and services and describe how people are consumers and producers of goods and services.

2 nd Create a graphic organizer or concept map that describes how supply and demand influences production.

Be sure to stress that Wikipedia is not always a legit website to use a s resource. TEACH Research Skills beginning as whole groups and eventually to independent research.

Pair students to work together for research. Use technology station to incorporate SS Skills.(CLIP) Research topics independently and keep information in a research journal. Utilize thesaurus and dictionaries on line to find meanings/synonyms of vocabulary.

Use Literacy Stations to work on writing skills Example: Mr. Tanen’s Tie Troubles (Economics)

Curriculum Guides will have resources and links to those resources Identify examples of scarcity in and around specific regions. (E, G) 3.23 What is scarcity, and how can it affect a region?
