As an Access professional you are no doubt aware of the importance of collections and cash flow to a healthcare facility’s revenue cycle. Research, experience and common sense confirm that patient-owed balances are easier to collect “up-front”, i.e. before the service is actually performed. Experience also tells us that this is no simple task. With these challenges in mind, we are pleased to offer you the NAHAM Guide to Up-front Collections. It is a compilation of findings and resources gathered from both the NAHAM Up-front Collections Collaborative, a comprehensive, year-long study that documented the collections efforts of a diverse group of hospitals from across the country, and from the input of over 50 members actively engaged in Up-front Collections. The materials that follow outline a flexible, do-it-yourself approach to developing, improving and maintaining cash collections procedures in Patient Access.
